Our Ukrainian Festival was a success even though the weather was not cooperating, According to the weather report, the rain was to stop at 11:00 AM so we felt that by 2:00 PM the weather would clear. At 12 noon it was still raining so the tarps and easy ups were set-up. By 1 PM it was still raining However, at 1:50, 10 minutes prior starting, the rain stopped and Pastor Zoe opened the celebration welcoming our guests and giving our blessing in prayer. Our volunteer ensemble lead by our music director, Molly Nelson McDyer , began the music program with mix of American and Ukrainian hymns and music. After the music, Molly engaged the audience with Ukrainian folklore and dance.
It was nice to have local news coverage by WGAL TV and the York Daily Record. The coverage helped convey the needs of the Ukrainian people. Bethel UCC was able to raise $1,500 on that gloomy afternoon not only because of the support of volunteers of the church and the people who came out to participate in the event but it seemed that God was walking us through each trial and obstacle. We were definitely blessed that day.
Bethel UCC also extends a huge thank youto Myers Meat Market and Kuntzler Meats for donating the food and Bob Ernst for supplying the chips.
The $1,500 was donated to a Charity called Direct Relief. This charity was recognized as one of the top ten charities assisting the Ukrainian people by a charity watchdog group.
